If you consider yourself a thrillseeker, you will be glad to know that the Smoky Mountains have several exciting mountain coasters to ride! One of the best examples of this type of ride is the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster, which is just a short drive away from our hotel! Here are the top 4 reasons why you need to ride the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster during your vacation to the Smokies:

1. Puts You in Control

mountain coasterUnlike the traditional roller coasters that you find at Dollywood and other theme parks across the country, the speed of the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster is controlled by you! While sitting in your coaster cart, simply use the brake levers to go faster or slower as you navigate through a series of turns, dips, and corkscrews down the mountain! The coaster can reach speeds up to 30 miles per hour, so you can opt for a leisurely ride or go full throttle in a race to the bottom! Altogether, you can count on an entire ride experience that lasts more than 9 minutes!

2. Impressive Statistics

While you will find several other mountain coasters in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster boasts some of the most impressive statistics! Once taking a ride down the mountain, you can brag you just experienced the longest coaster in east Tennessee! This coaster is also the only one in the world with four separate lift hills, giving you plenty of time to admire the surrounding mountain scenery! Of course, we recommend you try all the mountain coasters in the Smokies and decide for yourself which one is best!

3. Fun for All Ages

The coaster sleds can accommodate up to two riders, and children ages 3 to 6 years old can ride with someone 16 or older controlling the sled. Just like the roller coasters at amusement parks, there is a height requirement that is designed for the safety of riders. Note that the height requirement to ride alone is 56 inches tall, while passengers riding along must be at least 38 inches tall.

4. Open in Most Weather Conditions

If you have your heart set on riding the Rocky Top Mountain Coaster during your vacation, you don’t have to worry about any bad weather ruining your fun! The ride is open during the rain and even in the snow, which can actually add to the adventure! Of course, it will temporarily close in thunderstorms and heavy rains for your safety. You may also be surprised to know that the ride is open both during the day and at night, so come back after nightfall to experience the sparkling lights along the track!
